Sushi

I didn't think I'd get on tonight, but I returned from my dinner to find a pleasant surprise in my mailbox. A friend of mine sent Sid an adorable shirt and also included some lovely Lush goodies for me!!! I had to get online to thank her and figured while I'm on, I better get our sushi pics uploaded.
Before I put them up though I wanted to share a cute picture of Sid I took yesterday.
I stood there and marvelled at how big he looks in his crib now. I remember putting him to sleep in that crib and thinking it just looked to big and lonely for him. ::sigh::
And now, on to the sushi... Here are the rolls we made:
We used Nori, homemade sushi rice, red peppers, avocado, bean sprouts, cucumber, green onion and maybe something else that I'm forgetting. It was fun to roll them. We will definitely be making more sushi in the future.
No, we didn't actually feed him the sushi like that. We gave Sid the ones that didn't stick together as well. I love this pic though.
Sid loves to stuff the food into his mouth.

Sometimes when we are feeding him, he bites onto the spoon and won't let go...

Sid's 9-month appointment

Sid had his doctor appointment this morning. Here are his stats:
Height: 30 inches, 85-90th percentile
Weight: 23 lbs 6 oz, 80th percentile
Head circumference: 19 inches ~ off the charts!

I probably won't get the promised sushi pics up tonight. I forgot that I have a dinner date with a couple of my girlfriends. I will try to get those up as soon as possible though.

Catching up

Sorry it's been forever since I've posted. I've been working 5 days a week this month and I've got to say I miss my long weekends. Who the hell came up with a 5 day work week anyway? For this post, I am mostly just going to share a ton of photos of Sid that we've taken over the last 2 weeks or so.

Tomorrow we take him to the doctor for his 9 month appointment. Yes, I realize he is almost 10 months old, but that's how his appointment got scheduled! We can't wait to find out how big he is. Michael and I were discussing this the other night and we both think he's about 30-32 inches tall. I have no idea how much he weighs. Michael's guessing 26-27 pounds. I'll post the stats tomorrow night.
Sid is really a joy to be around. He's smart, funny and stinking adorable. He can stand up all by himself without assistance, although the maximum amount of time he's managed to stay upright is probably about 10 seconds. I should also note that he is not getting up into a stand by himself, we have to help him. He still does not crawl, but he can get where he wants to go. I think he's just not that inspired to get anywhere at this point. My mom was saying yesterday that he's lazy like I was, but apparently I was worse. Figures.

Sid's limited walking skills have been enough to make us panic about childproofing our house. If you let him lead, he goes everywhere you don't want him to go and tries to play with everything you don't want him to play with. That's probably the story of every parent's life, but it's our turn to learn it first hand. He did discover the cupboard with the pots and pans, which was fine with us. This was after Mommy let him "escape" from the living room.

He LOVES the water. We try to bathe him as much as possible. The other day I had him in the tub and I also had the sprayer on. Sid kept sticking his hand and then his face under the water. He'd pull his face out, look up and me and start laughing. It was really cute. We'll try to get this on video, however it seems like once we whip out the video camera he won't do anything we want to get on tape!

Sid loves to play with the train his Aunt Brandy and her family got him for Christmas. At Grandma Audrey's house, he loves to play with this big school bus she has. He still loves his ball. He also got a table that plays music and he really seems to enjoy it.

To sleep with, Sid loves his pink and purple sting ray, this rattle that lights up and his pop beads.

Let's see, he still loves to eat. We have not discovered anything he won't eat at this point. Some of his recent "favorites" are stir fry, black olives, pickles, pineapple, spaghetti with marinara (as you'll see below), the soft part of the bread, and peas, which he loves to squish before eating. As of tonight, he seems to like sushi too. We made veggie sushi for dinner. Sid ate everything except for the green onion. Wasn't sure how that would go over, so we left it off his plate. He even ate a little bite of seaweed! No wasabi though.

He says dada and just recently, as in the last week, started saying mama. I'm not totally convinced he's referring to Michael and I, but I could be wrong. Michael thinks he is. Now that we're debating it, I did think earlier he was trying to call Michael into the room. Who knows? Sometimes he says mamamamom and it warms my heart. Michael admitted he gets a little thrill from every dada too.
I feel like I could go on and on about Michael and I's little man. It's hard to believe that he's almost a year old. I feel grateful every day that he is my son and I can't wait to learn more about him as he gets older. Enjoy the new pictures. Look for an update tomorrow night. I will post his stats as mentioned earlier and also put up a few pics of him enjoying sushi.

Standing up like a big boy

Many of you know that Sid has been standing and walking with assistance for quite some time. Well, the other night him and I were upstairs playing. He was standing holding onto me when first he let go with his right hand, then his left. Next thing I know he's standing all own his own. He was really steady on his feet for a good 3-5 seconds and then he grabbed back on. I was very proud of him and he seemed proud of himself as well. Sid has also figured out other ways to stand without Momma and Dada's help..

Who knew this tummy time mat would be used for so long?!

Sid got a new toy from his Grandma for Christmas. He LOVES it.

This chair is really the cutest thing. It plays music when you sit on it, turn the light on, play with the clock and turn the pages on the book. He LOVES the book. There is a page with a duck and the duck will quack. He loves to open and shut it so the duck keeps quacking. He giggles while doing so and bops around to the music.

Here's a picture that will make you wonder how I get anything done on my computer!

As I'm sure most babies probably do, he LOVES the keyboard. He can make our computers do things we didn't know they were capable of doing! The other day mine was making some interesting beeping noises while he was banging away on the keyboard.

Sid's taking a nap now, which means I can start cleaning/babyproofing, so I better close. A few parting shots of our boy.

Can you tell by the drool that he's teething?

The rest of our trip

We did some sledding the day after Christmas. Here are a few pictures..

Michael was quite the daredevil. That's him going head first down the hill!
Here's Sid enjoying the massage chair. We had gotten it out for Michael, but I think Sid enjoyed it more.

Here he is trying on dad's "hippie" hat. I love this pic..

Here's Sid wrestling/snuggling his Christmas bear.

Sid enjoyed some time standing near the glass doors leading out to Grandma and Grandpa's deck. He felt like a big boy standing all by himself!

Sid and Grandpa really enjoyed each other's company, which is apparent in this photo.

On the 30th, we went for dinner and a ride at Straddle A Saddle. You take a sleigh ride to an old cabin, where you eat dinner. I only have a couple of pictures from the ride up and then of a sign in the parking lot. Barbara and I thought the sign said something else, which I'm sure you can guess. (Picture it in dim light) I tried to get a picture of the sleigh and horses, but it didn't turn out.
